The Infinity Baccalaureate & Professional Pathways (Year 10-11)

By Year 11 all Infinity students will have a set of recognised, valued and globally relevant qualifications within the framework of the Infinity Baccalaureate.

At Key Stage 4, we will again follow the National Curriculum and offer a combination of GCSE,  iGCSE and Btec qualifications to our students that are appropriate to their abilities and aligns with their interests.

GCSE qualifications are a huge priority for many UK schools. As such we will ensure we meet and exceed the government’s’ identified floor standards, of the Ebacc, Progress 8 and Attainment 8, within this national assessment framework. In addition we will seek to recognise and accredit that which traditional GCSE’s can not. Our approach to the delivery of examined qualifications will ensure that students are both exam ready and world ready, becoming the liberated lifelong-lifewide learners we desire.

Our approach to the GCSE years is different to other schools as, in line with our 4 design principles and our distinguishing features, we seek to make the experience more personalised and authentic rather than purely driven by terminal examinations. Our Professional Pathways, which cover 7 industry recognised and ‘future-ready’ pathways,  are designed to draw together complementary and facilitating subjects while avoiding the narrow channeling of an individual into a single ‘career path’.

Throughout Year 9 we will support students, academically, socially and emotionally, through their Advisory to make the best decisions about the Professional Pathway they would like to follow through Years 10 and 11.  The Pathway will enable students to choose a ‘Major’ elective and a at least three ‘Minor’ electives in addition to the mandatory CORE followed by all learners. The CORE provision includes:

  • Maths
  • English Lit & Lang
  • Combined Science

In addition we will expect all students to undertake the Extended project Qualification (EPQ) at either L1 or L2 as part of their academic CORE.

In addition to offering a range of accredited courses we will provide opportunities for students to experience the world of work through an extended Internship related to their Pathway.

Students will also apply their learning to community and individual projects throughout Year 10 and 11. We stress the importance of Arts subjects and value them equally to the STEM and Humanities subjects.  The nature of our highly personalised curriculum would mean that students would not necessarily study all subjects simultaneously.

From years 9 to 11 students will develop their own personalised pathways, first through Specialisation and then through Pathways, this may mean that some students can complete terminal examinations for particular courses before the traditional end of Year 11. In addition some students may opt for more vocational pathways and we will support them in this. Courses at this level will be rigorously designed and all materials including video explanations, texts and mastery tests will be built into the Infinity Cloud platform to enable learning anytime anywhere. By the end of KS4 be expect all students to have achieved at least 9 GCSE or equivalent and the EPQ

Within the framework of the Infinity Baccalaureate  all learners will be given the opportunity to attain recognised and valued qualifications, be prepared to move into the next phase of their education. This approach has been designed in line with our overall Mission & Vision in mind. We do not want students to feel that they enter the treadmill of examinations for the sole ends of passing the test. We wish to build a highly personalised approach through the Pathway to enable learner to achieve exceptionally well academically while still having the space to grow as an individual and as a Liberated Lifelong-Lifewide Learner.
